Since Colin and Marjory Keatley opened the doors in 1991 The Fat Cat pub has gone on to become one of the most successful real ale pubs in the country. Major awards include winning CAMRA Norfolk Pub of the Year four times and twice going on to win Camra National Pub of the Year (1998 and 2004). As well as being crowned The Good Pub Guide, Beer Pub of the Year a record five times! (1998, 2003, 2008, 2010 and 2013). The Fat Cat is renowned for its vast selection of 30+ real ales, served all year round, both on handpump and gravity. The Fat Cat also offers a wide range of continental lagers and Belgian fruit beers served on draught, a selection of over 50 bottled beers from around the world, 20 traditional ciders & perries, a range of spirits and several wines & fruit wines. Mark and Laura met whilst producing TV programmes and after 10 years in the industry decided to seize the opportunity of running the Fat Cat Brewery Tap (formerly the Cider Shed). Mark had always been keen to run his own pub as he comes from a long line of publicans including his Grandfather Jack Keatley who ran the very successful Roundhouse in Covent Garden.
Three years after the grand opening The Fat Cat Brewery Tap and gone from strength to strength; boasting a range of up to 25 real ales and 20 traditional ciders. There is live music to enjoy three times a week and a entertaining pub quiz fortnightly. The Brewery Tap also features a annual beer festival extravaganza with well over 50 ales. The Fat Cat & Canary is the newest addition to the Fat Cat family. After spending many years working in, and running, a number of pubs and restaurants across Norfolk Christian Hodgkinson was given the opportunity to run his very own Fat Cat pub. Named after it’s proximity to Norwich City Football Club the Fat Cat & Canary opened in 2012 and has already been entered into the Camra Good Beer Guide. A good range of real ales, lagers, ciders and wines are always available. Pub quiz’s, poker nights and the occasional live band offer great entertainment weekly. Keep an eye out for the Fat Cat & Canary burger van on football match days, serving gourmet burgers and hot dogs.
